We have worshiped and studied the scriptures together. We have supported needy families and orphan children. We have offered family-oriented cost-free evenings for the community. We have supported the work of the church at large in mission planting, Christian education and Lutheran social services. In short, we have shared God’s love with one another and those around us. In even shorter terms, we have lived as the church of Jesus Christ. There can be no doubt that this is a generous congregation. But as we approach the end of the year, we must share our current situation and ask if you might pray and see if you feel moved to help.
As you can see, we are pretty close to our budget on income and beating our budget on expenses. We set our budget based on previous giving patterns. Since the last couple of years included a “Close the Gap” fund drive, this year’s budget presumed an end-of-year fund drive to end the year without an operation loss. That’s why we are behind on overall finances but still nearly on budget through the end of November.
You should also know that our building fund has grown from $10,420 to $14,075 during this time. The growth in our building fund does not show on income/expense reports because it is not part of our operating income. (On this note, we have re-submitted our proposal to lease space in Lake Nona. Pray for this proposal.)
LET’S CLOSE THE OPERATING FUND GAP! Since regular giving in December can be expected to cover December expenses, the above data indicates that we can currently expect a negative gap of about $10,700 between our income and our expenses.
So we are initiating a “Close the Gap” fund drive. We have received a matching funds grant of up to $5,000 to encourage everyone to help Close the Gap. Your year-end “Close the Gap” donation will be matched dollar for dollar (up to the grant limit). That means that for every $1 you give, the income/expense gap for 2015 will be narrowed by $2! Please mark your special contribution as “Close the Gap.”. And it is important that your “Close the Gap” contribution be above and beyond the regular tithes and offerings you planned for in December.
HOW CAN I DONATE?
- You can bring a check or cash with you to church over the next couple of Sundays. There will be envelopes marked “Close the Gap 2015” on the Welcome Table.
- You can donate with major credit/debit cards using the Paypall buttons on this page. Paypal is very secure. You do NOT need a Paypal account to use a credit/debit card. It works just like a store.
- You can mail a check payable to “Journey of Life Lutheran Church” to Karen Peterson, 13930 Lamont Dr. Orlando, FL 32832. Be sure to make your check payable to “Journey of Life Lutheran Church” and include “Close the Gap – 2015” on the memo line.
With everyone working together, we are confident that we can close the gap and finish 2015 without an operating loss.
God bless you as your prayerfully consider your contribution to “Close the Gap”
